Students Making a Difference at Carolina

SPURS, Students Promoting the University’s Reach for Success, is the University’s student philanthropy education program. Through peer-to-peer outreach and campus programming, SPURS creates awareness about the importance of private giving and builds a stronger culture of philanthropy among the student body.

Get Involved With SPURS

It's one of the newest student groups on campus, and it's gaining notoriety. Whether you join the Student Development Council or stop by one of our Greene Street events, be sure to do your part in thanking alumni and friends for enhancing the student experience through their generosity.

You can find SPURS all over campus; Visiting U101 classes, visiting student organizations, on Greene Street with students and so much more. Stay up-to-date and learn how you can participate with SPURS by liking our facebook by clicking here.

The Student Development Council

The Student Development Council (SDC)  is a team of select students who promote the importance of philanthropy through SPURS (Students Promoting the University's Reach for Success) and Senior Class Legacy programs. The council's primary goals are to educate students about the importance and impact annual gifts have at Carolina and to prepare students to support the University of South Carolina upon graduation.

Duties of council members include:
  • assisting with philanthropy events throughout the year
  • visiting student organizations to promote philanthropy and the Senior Class Legacy
  • attending biweekly council meetings
  • planning and implementing campus outreach events and marketing materials
  • promoting the importance of philanthropy to the student body
  • encouraging seniors to participate in the Senior Class Legacy
  • facilitating projects that encourage and enable students to show donor appreciation.
