About USC Columbia

Since our founding more than 200 years ago, the University of South Carolina Columbia has offered a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs through to the doctoral level.  Recipient of the Carnegie Foundation's highest designations for both research activity and community engagement, the University's focus on engaged learning, research and outreach improves lives in Columbia, the state and across the globe.

  • Carolina and its alumni annually contribute more than $4 billion in total economic output to the state’s economy.
  • Home to the nation's highest-ranked undergraduate program in international business (2011 US News & World Report rankings).
  • 2010 College Baseball National Champion
Faculty generated a record $218.8 million in funding for research, outreach, and training programs in 2010.  In addition to international business, top-ranked programs include exercise science, psychology, library and information science, English, and Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management.

USC Columbia's health science schools and graduates of medicine, nursing, public health, social work and pharmacy make a direct difference in the lives of many.  The School of Medicine is the largest producer of the state’s primary care physicians.

Priorities

Private funding will help USC Columbia:

  • open more paths to a Carolina education by increasing scholarship and fellowship support for undergraduate and graduate students;
  • provide support for recruitment and retention of promising faculty;
  • ensure faculty have leading technologies and instructional tools in classrooms and labs;
  • invest in our program strengths and in emerging areas of opportunity; and
  • renovate historic academic buildings and construct needed academic facilities.
