Support the Promise
of USC Sumter

The University of South Carolina Sumter was established nearly 50 years ago to create access to higher education for residents in the counties of Clarendon, Lee, Kershaw, Sumter, and Williamsburg. Today, approximately 1,200 students pursue associate and bachelor's degrees at Sumter, and the University continues to make a significant impact on the educational, economic and cultural fortunes of its region.

About USC Sumter

USC Sumter proudly trumpets that all of its academic programs feature small class sizes and a close working relationship between students and faculty members, nearly all of whom hold the highest degrees available in their fields.   At the heart of USC Sumter's mission to provide higher education and intellectual leadership to its service area is an outstanding teaching faculty dedicated to excellence in instruction, scholarship, public and professional service, and creative endeavor.

HALLMARKS

  • Active-duty military and veterans comprise 15 percent of the student population.
  • Sumter embraces diversity in its student body: 36 percent of  students are from racial or ethnic minority backgrounds.
  • The SC Center for Oral Narration, based at USC Sumter, serves to
document, preserve and present oral traditions.  Programs include The Annual Jack Doyle Storytelling Festival and The Spoken Word Series: Poetry and Drama.
A full range of programs are available on the USC Sumter campus from associate degrees through a variety of graduate offerings. The bachelor’s degree opportunities in business administration, elementary education, early childhood education, liberal studies and organizational leadership meet the educational needs of most students without having to leave Sumter.

In addition to academic coursework, the mission of the campus includes non-credit courses, seminars, and workshops made available to the Sumter area community for cultural enrichment and professional development.

In order to better serve the Shaw Air Force Base active duty community in Sumter with their higher education needs, USC Sumter operates a student services office at Shaw's Base Education Center.

Priorities

Private support of USC Sumter elevates the quality of the student experience and fosters excellence within programs that would not be possible otherwise.  Please consider supporting USC Sumter's greatest needs which include student scholarships, faculty professorships, and faculty/staff development.
