Arnold School of Public Health

Support the Promise
of Public Health

The Arnold School of Public Health marked its 35th anniversary in 2010, honoring a distinguished and growing tradition of academic excellence.  Accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, the school's faculty, undergraduates, and graduate students are dedicated to reducing the impact of public health risks such as cardiovascular disease and stroke, childhood obesity and diabetes, health disparities, cancer, unintended injuries, and other health challenges.

About the Arnold School

The Arnold School of Public Health will soon move 30 percent of its operations into the Discovery I building behind the Koger Center. The new location provides close proximity to the $22 million Public Health Research Center Building that opened in 2006. This will unite school operations within one city block.

HALLMARKS & RANKINGS
  • The Arnold School is the only accredited school of public health in South Carolina.
  • The school leads the University of South Carolina in extramural funding per tenure-track faculty.
  • The Arnold School's program in Exercise Science and Kinesiology has been ranked No. 1 in the nation.

Named for benefactor Norman Arnold, the school has grown to more than 100 faculty, 1,600 students, an annual budget of 16 million, and research-driven grant receipts of more than $55 million the past two years. Two new undergraduate degree programs were introduced in 2009, joining graduate programs across six departments: Communication Sciences and Disorders; Environmental Health Sciences; Epidemiology and Biostatistics; Exercise Science; Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior; and Health Services Policy and Management.
