Supporting Programs

Carolina’s vision of multiplying its value to South Carolinians and the world requires strengthening priority programs and initiating new ones that carry great promise. With only 11 percent of Carolina’s budget supported by state appropriations, philanthropy must provide the “venture capital” for programs that otherwise could not be funded.

Funding support for key programs needed at our eight campuses covers a variety of opportunities.  A few examples include:

  • Strengthening Honors College programs across the campuses.
  • Boosting support for the Gamecock Guarantee, which provides financial assistance to qualified students in need.
  • Building a model Rule of Law program to assist fledgling democracies.

  • Adding needed curricula on the seven regional and senior campuses.
  • Expanding international experiences and providing needy students with opportunities to study abroad.

  • Accelerating research activity in our endowed chair programs so that breakthroughs in health and science can be put into practice more rapidly.
  • Expanding literacy outreach and university-school partnerships.
  • Upgrading teaching technologies, equipping student laboratories and purchasing supplies for student research projects.
