The College of Social Work is dedicated to leadership, social justice and service in South Carolina, the nation and the international community. We emphasize the preparation of social work professionals and the creation of social work knowledge, with the purpose of addressing the major challenges facing our society. Through inspired education, relevant research and engaged outreach, the College of Social Work’s core focus can be distilled down to this: to help individuals, families and communities be healthy and productive with the ultimate goal of advancing social well-being and social justice for vulnerable people around the world.
From its inception, the College of Social Work has operated as a program of highest quality. This is evidenced by the award of unconditional accreditation by the Commission of Accreditation of the Council on Social Work Education in 1969 and in every subsequent review. As the College continues to grow and develop in order to meet new needs and emerging challenges, it will maintain this historic commitment to quality in every endeavor.
