Support the Promise of the Honors College

The South Carolina Honors College provides a superlative undergraduate education for academically gifted students. With a focus on the individual educational needs, abilities and aspirations of each of its students, the College draws on the full resources and academic depth of a comprehensive research university. At the core of the Honors College mission is the belief that each individual student matters and that each deserves a program of study which fits their individual goals and needs.

The first dean of the Honors College, William Mould recently passed away. You can honor his memory by making a gift to the "William Mould and Peter Sederberg Scholarship Fund." Your gift will help current Honors College students who receive little or no other financial aid. Click here to make an online donation.

With our new "Honors Beyond the Classroom" requirement, the Honors College is taking the lead in developing a liberal arts curriculum for the 21st Century. Graduation with a degree with Honors from the South Carolina Honors College requires 45 honors credits including courses across the liberal arts curriculum, and a culminating senior thesis or project.

Students who complete this significant program of study, in addition to their major and other requirements, leave the University with a strong grounding in a 21st Century liberal arts curriculum that prepares them to be leaders in their future careers and communities.

Our University's living and learning communities have been lauded nationally, and the new Honors Residence community - opened in 2009 - continues that quality trend.  We're proud that this student housing is the first Gold LEED-certified building on campus. The academically-themed community emphasizes active service-learning experiences, study-abroad opportunities, and undergraduate research.  Our Honors College students are encouraged to pursue research in all disciplines from arts to science and business to math.
