The School of Music prepares musicians for professional careers and leadership in music teaching, performance, composition, research and related fields, offering numerous degree programs through the doctoral level. It also prides itself on its role to enrich and sustain the quality of life in Columbia, SC, and beyond by preparing all of its stakeholders to maximize the power of music in their lives and in the communities where they live. To bolster its ability to meet the needs of the next generation of musicians, the school will focus its fundraising efforts on; undergraduate scholarships; graduate assistantships; and the advancement of its vision and five core values: Pursuing Excellence, Achieving Student Success,Training Music Leaders, Preparing Musicians as Educators & Educators as Musicians, and Assuring Student Acquisition of Diverse Musical Skills for the 21st Century.

Undergraduate Student Performance Scholarships

The School of Music requires a significant number of scholarships to remain competitive with other institutions for the best young musicians. As 83% of all undergraduate music majors are on scholarships that total in excess of $800,000 expenditure per year, the School has an imperative to continue to raise these dollars to sustain the quality of its programs.

Graduate Student Performance & Academic Assistance & Fellowships

The School of Music requires a significant number of fellowships & assistantships of a certain amount to remain competitive with other institutions for the best graduate aged professional musicians. As 66% of all grad music majors are on this type of aid, that total in excess of $700,000 expenditure per year, the School has an imperative to continue to raise these dollars to sustain the quality of its programs.
